Why CD20 Flow Cytometry Test?
CLINICAL INFORMATION
CD 20 (Cluster of Differentiate 20) is a protein that is expressed on the surface of B cells. CD 20 is expressed on plasmablasts and stimulated plasma cells (CD 20 is not expressed on hematopoietic stem cells, pro-B cells, or normal plasma cells). Hence CD 20 plays a vital role in B-cell development, differentiation, B cell receptor (BCR) signaling, and cell-cycle initiation events. CD20 is found in certain types of B-cell Lymphomas and leukemias, hence measuring CD20 antigens on blood cells helps to diagnose cancer or plan treatment for cancer. Also, CD 20 expressed in conditions (majority of B-cell malignancies) such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, and mantle cell lymphoma. Moreover, CD19 and CD20 are found to co-express are used as a diagnostic marker in another B-cell differentiation marker. Flow Cytometry is a powerful and versatile analytical technology. CD20 Flow Cytometry assay quantitatively measures therapeutic B-cell depletion for patients on monoclonal anti-CD20 therapies such as Rituximab (a therapy used to treat patients with various types of B cell lymphoma, leukemia, and immune disorders).
