Bleeding Time
A bleeding time test examines how long time your blood takes to clot to stop the bleeding. This test evaluates the functions of Blood platelets to detect platelets disorders such as Hemophilia, Primary Thrombocythemia, and Von Willebrand’s Disease.

CLINICAL INFORMATION :
Bleeding Time test is performed by cleaning the puncture site with antiseptic to reduce the risk of infections. Prick is made and blood is blotted using around the edges of the circular blotting paper disc for every 30 seconds (using a stopwatch or timer) until bleeding stops and the time taken is noted and recorded as the bleeding time. Prolonged bleeding time reflects platelet function defect. Abnormal results (prolonged fibrin clot formation) indicate Hemophilia A and B, primary thrombocythemia, thrombocytopenia, vitamin K deficiency, Von Willebrand’s disease, absence or abnormalities in clotting factors such as Factor II, V, VII, X or XII, etc. Symptoms of a bleeding disorder include unexplained easy bruising, frequent nose bleeds, anemia, shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness, bleeding into the joints, heavy menstrual bleeding, and endometriosis in women, etc. complications if untreated can lead to severe excessive blood loss, bleeding in the intestines, brain, joints, etc. Other tests include complete blood count, platelet aggregation test, etc. False-positive test results can arise in patients on drugs like asprin etc.
