Why Antiphospholipid Antibody:IgM test?
CLINICAL INFORMATION :
Antiphospholipid Antibody-IgM helps diagnose the reasons for recurrent miscarriage, asses and/or monitors prolonged PTT (Partial thromboplastin time), and/or assesses the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome or also called Hughe’s syndrome. This test helps to determine inappropriate blood clot formation - Thromboses (causes increased risk of blood clots) such as either excess clotting or unexplained thrombotic episodes etc, which may result in patient’s miscarriages during pregnancy. Symptoms of antiphospholipid syndrome are balance and mobility problems, diplopia (double vision), speech and memory problems, pins and needles sensations in legs and hands, fatigue (extreme tiredness), and repeated headaches or migraines. The prolonged untreated complication may lead to low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), intravascular coagulation, deep vein thrombosis, stroke, etc. Anti-phospholipid antibody screening by ELISA confirms the antibodies against cardiolipin, phosphatidyl serine, phosphatidyl inositol, phosphatidic acid, and co-factor beta-2– glycoprotein –1and lupus anticoagulant in human serum or plasma.
