Anti CCP (Cyclic Citirullinated Peptide) IgG

CCP IgG (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide) is autoantibodies generated by Immune System. Citrulline produced in the metabolism process of Aminoacid arginine. In RA, the Citrulline level is elevated in the blood. This test evaluates the Anti-CCP antibodies of the blood to diagnose Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and monitor prognosis in RA-affected patients.

ANTI-CCP IgG:

Why Anti-CCP IgG test?

CLINICAL INFORMATION :

ANTI-CCP IgG test is performed to screen for autoantibodies against the cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) in the blood produced in rheumatoid arthritis. Anti-CCP IgG is performed along with rheumatoid factor (RF) to confirm Rheumatoid arthritis. Apart from these positive test results for RF and Anti-CCP antibody tests, even sero-negative cases (without the presence of antibodies against CCP or RF) are present with rheumatoid arthritis. These levels can be elevated in rheumatologic conditions associated with inflammatory arthritis, such as systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE). Anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs) are autoantibodies that are directed against proteins that are citrullinated is a useful tool for diagnosis, as it serves biomarkers in the majority of rheumatoid arthritis patients. During inflammation, the amino acid arginine is converted into citrulline in protein such as vimentin by a process called citrullination. Vimentin is secreted and citrullinated by macrophages in response to apoptosis or by pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (THF-alpha). Hence genetically modified citrullinatedvimentin (MCV) is used in ELISA to detect Rheumatoid arthritis patients. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are joint pain, joint stiffness, joint swelling, loss of cartilage, and loss of joint function and deformities.  Other tests include ESR and CRP helps to access measure inflammation, X-rays, MRI scans, etc.
