ALLERGY PANEL – VEGETARIAN:

Why Allergy panel - vegetarian test?

CLINICAL INFORMATION :

Allergy Panel – Vegetarian test is a part of the food allergy panel. The allergy–food (vegetarian) test measures the level of allergen-specific antibodies. These substances may elicit a hypersensitive allergic reaction by the immune system (immunoglobulin IgE to specific food). Oral food challenge (OFC) is the most accurate test to determine food allergy.  Some of the most common food allergy tests used are skin prick testing, radioallergosorbent test, oral food challenge, and atopy patch testing, etc. Some of the symptoms of vegetarian food allergy include hives, stomach upset, bloody stools – especially in children, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and clinical manifestation of signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis – a rare potentially life-threatening reaction that impairs breathing (swelling of airways – impairing the ability to breathe), sudden drop in blood pressure causing dizziness and fainting consequently leading to shock. Untreated complications of a vegetarian food allergy can lead to consequences like rapid heartbeat, sudden drop in blood pressure, heart palpitations, trouble breathing, swelling in the air passage of the throat, slurred speech, swollen tongue, swollen lips, cyanosis around lips, fingertips or toes and loss of consciousness, etc. Hence the best way to treat allergies is to know the cause of that allergen and these food allergy tests help screen diagnose them.
