ALBUMIN – CREATININE RATIO:
CLINICAL INFORMATION :
Albumin-creatinine ratio (ACR)and albumin test used to screen for kidney disease in patients with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes. ACR indicates urine microalbuminuria in urine specimens in conditions like kidney diseases. During the progression of kidney disease, the levels of creatinine rise in the blood which reflects a pathological state where normal physiology of nephrons are hampered, thereby unable to remove wastes and excess fluid from the blood. The early signs and symptoms of kidney damage reflect decreased urine output, fluid retention causing swelling of legs, ankles, and feet, shortness of breath, etc. Symptoms of high creatinine in urine include nausea, chest pain, muscle cramps, vomiting, fatigue, altered urination frequency and appearance, high blood pressure, and edema or swelling due to fluid retention.
This albumin-creatinine ratio test is suggested for patients with symptoms of protein in urine causing frothy urine, fluid retention causing swelling, weakness, rapid heartbeat, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea, etc.
