CLINICAL INFORMATION :

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) catalyzes the deamination of adenosine. ADA exists in two isoforms – ADA1 and ADA2. They share the same substrate but differ in terms of expression, cellular location, and catalytic and biochemical properties. Deficiency of adenosine deaminase₂ (DADA₂) caused due to an autosomal recessive disease is involved in diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs and certain disorders involving immune mechanism. DAD₂ is characterized by systemic vascular and inflammatory manifestations, stroke, immunodeficiency, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and Crohn's disease. ADA₂ is a diagnostic biomarker for inflammation and is a diagnostic tool for tuberculosis.
