VMA – VANILLYLMANDELIC ACID:
Vanillylmandelic Acid is synthesized when epinephrine and norepinephrine breaking down (Metabolism of catecholamines). This test evaluates VMA level in the urine for screening and prognosis -monitoring the treatment process of neuroblastoma and the various Neuroendocrine tumors.
CLINICAL INFORMATION :
A high amount of vanillylmandelic acid in the urine may suggest adrenal gland tumour such as pheochromocytoma or tumors derived from neural crest cells (sometimes false-positive results can occur due to obstructive sleep apnoea, stress, or other illnesses). Symptoms for high vanillylmandelic acid include persistent or periodically high blood pressure (non-pheochromocytoma hypertensive cases), severe headaches, rapid heart rate, and sweating.
