This urobilinogen is one of the Urinalysis tests. Urobilinogen is produced from the breaking down of bilirubin which is a yellowish component in the blood. This test determines the Urobilinogen amount of the blood or urine to detect liver diseases like liver cirrhosis, jaundice, and hepatitis.

This test is usually done for liver infections like hepatitis or liver cirrhosis and/or kidney disorders. This test is suggested in patients with symptoms with excessive hemolysis leading to jaundice (high urobilinogen), gall stones, or tumor blocks (it can reflect reduction or absence of urobilinogen in urine) and liver or kidney pathologies. Other associated tests include urine strip method, colorimetric methods, spectrometry, etc.
